Ethiopia - Buku Abel
TASTING NOTES: We're playing nothing but the hits as we keep our heads down and rally against the brutality of January and February. You want something nostalgic, something that reminds you of the first time, something that gives you hope, something that lets you know of the enormous potential of the year to come. Well, this natural Ethiopian doesn't do all of that, but it does taste deliciously of blackberries & vanilla ice cream, with a little citrus zing to cut through so at least there’s that.
This coffee was produced by smallholder producers in the Buku village, and was processed at the Buku washing station operated by Esayas Bareso. The Buku Abel village where the washing station is located within the West Guji zone, sits at 2350 meters above sea level, making it one of the highest coffee producing altitudes we’ve ever had! The cherries are manually harvested before being taken to the processing station where they are hand sorted. The sorted cherries are then dried on raised beds where they are turned frequently until reaching their ideal humidity. All coffee is hand sorted a final time after drying before being prepared for export.
